Triple arches and pool at the Arab Baths of Córdoba

What to do in Córdoba when it rains

Eight indoor plans that turn a grey day into a good reason to have come.

1. Arab baths in the Jewish Quarter

The perfect rainy-day plan. Two hours inside a stone building, with four pools at different temperatures, flotation, steam and tea. You do not need to go outside, you do not need sun, and the experience is exactly the same (or better) than on a clear day. The sound of the water inside the arches while it rains outside is something you do not forget.

From €32. Open every day from 10:00 to midnight. Book →

2. The Mosque-Cathedral

The most important monument in Córdoba is indoors. The forest of 856 two-coloured columns is just as impressive in the rain. In fact, on rainy days there are fewer people and you can enjoy it more calmly. Open every day.

3. The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos

The interior of the Alcázar has rooms with Roman mosaics and the tower of the Inquisition. The gardens can wait for another day, but the indoor rooms deserve at least an hour. A 5-minute walk from the Jewish Quarter.

4. Córdoba gastronomy

A rainy day is the perfect day for a long lunch. Salmorejo (not gazpacho), flamenquín, aubergines with honey, oxtail stew in season. The Jewish Quarter has excellent restaurants two minutes from the baths. Ask for a table next to a covered patio.

5. Casa de Sefarad

A small, beautiful museum in the Jewish Quarter that explains the life of the Jews in Córdoba. Intimate, well kept and perfect for half an hour of cultural calm. 2 minutes from the Arab baths.

6. The Archaeological Museum

One of the best archaeological museums in Spain, in the Palace of the Páez de Castillejo. Roman, Visigothic and Islamic pieces. Free for EU residents. On Plaza de Jerónimo Páez, 5 minutes from the Mosque.

7. Palacio de Viana (covered patios)

Viana has 12 patios, and several are covered or can be enjoyed from the corridors. The interior of the palace can also be visited, with original furniture from the 15th to the 19th century. Worth the trip even in the rain.

8. Craft shops in the Jewish Quarter

Embossed Córdoba leather, caliphal ceramics, handmade jewellery. The shops of the Jewish Quarter are small, authentic and perfect for buying something you cannot find on Amazon. Strolling through the narrow streets in light rain is, besides, one of the most beautiful images of Córdoba.

The perfect combination

The Mosque in the morning, lunch in the Jewish Quarter, Arab baths in the afternoon. The day works out perfectly, rain or shine. And if it rains, all the better: you have an excuse to stay longer in the hot water.
